Week 4: Characters, Revising, Rewriting

Next week I'll turn in a revised act I and a rough draft of act II. That's all still in process and there isn't a lot to report there. See last week's blogging for homework post about what changes will get made as I go along, and once the draft is done I'll post a more in-depth analysis of it along with some screenshots and other things. Rewriting is tedious because a lot of it relies on looking at an old draft, and rereading the things you've already written over and over and analyzing every single word. It's tedious, to put it nicely.

You may have noticed I added a new tab up at the top! The Mood Board is where I'll post photos that serve as visual references and inspiration. Right now, I have several photos from my grandmother's beach house, which is the inspiration of the house in my screenplay, after Sandy hit, documenting the damage around the house. If you look, you'll notice there isn't actually all that much damage to the house itself, just around it! The house sustained some water damage on the first floor and some sand got in, but the structure was still intact after the storm.

I also added some celebrities to the board. In class last week, someone asked me who I thought of when I wrote my main characters, Lex and Rowan Tully and Dani Hubert-Martinez, in terms of actors who could play them or just face casts. The actors I chose are Zoe Kazan (of The Big Sick fame) for Lex, Caleb Landry Jones (he was Banshee in X-Men: First Class and he was in Get Out) for Rowan, and Melissa Fumero (Amy on Brooklyn Nine-Nine). I don't know if the film were to get made that these three would be right for the roles at all, but I think they've got the right look and I think each of them have aspects that could make them good in the roles.
